Vicky and Craig's headingley stadium wedding https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/8/vicky-and-craigs-headingley-stadium-wedding Craig and Vicky decided to combine their love for rugby and of each other into one really special wedding day at Leeds' Headingley Carnegie Stadium. They asked me to share this special day with them as they wanted to capture the emotions of the day in one of their favourite places. I enjoyed planning this wedding photography as the unique nature of the venue really got my creative imagination fired-up with a host of ideas for making the most of the stadium in the photos.

Alnwick Castle one of Northumberland's finest https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/8/alnwick-castle-one-of-northumberlands-finest Northumberland is such a big county and seeing as most of my life was spent in the very southern bit of it Alnwick castle was not somewhere that we visited as children. Partly due to it being so far up the a1 and as we had a Norman castle in my home town of prudhoe the draw was less than that of other cool places.

Since then my life has changed and so has Alnwick castle. My wife and I visited when the gardens first opened mainly due to the fact that the price of the castle seemed to be ridiculous. since then it seems that the tourist industry has been going full tilt after the filming of a certain film involving a wizard and a hogwarts;-) oh and also a mr Beckham booking out the whole place for one of his kids parties.

So back to today, after seeing the new offer that the castle has on we couldn't resist getting in there. If you buy a ticket for the day it lasts for 12 months. The only down side is the overall cost, £48 for 2adults for the castle and gardens is a bit like loads to me but to be fair if we get 3 times in the year it's no more than some of the other big attractions.

Having already been out to the gardens before thought it best to get some castle action to start with. After avoiding the massive hole in the road that resulted from the recent rainy season the north east has been faced with, we entered hogwarts.. I mean the castle it was clear that it was the school holidays. It was fun to see so many kids getting all dressed up in armour and having broomstick races.

The structure itself is in fantastic condition considering its age and uses over the past 900 or so years. The level of touristy things they are doing in the grounds is great and keeping many local people employed. From the archery and broomstick races through to the dressing up and comedy stocks, kids and adults alike were busy having fun.

Having only brought a couple of primes with me on this trip the shots you see here are either at 24mm or 400mm not a normal mix but I wanted to test my new sigma 24 and there is always a chance of wildlife so the 400 is in there for things like to Guinie fowl and the swallows.

After the coolness of the castle we wandered the wet children strew expanse of the gardens. With the many water features everywhere u turned there was a child in a swim suit or a soaking wet tshirt. All of the plants were looking in great condition and it was a nice relaxing tootle round weaving round all of the visitors.

We finished the trip with a walk round the tree house that always gives you wobbly legs on the rope based walkways. On the whole it was a great day out and if you can justify the costs for a years pass its worth going for a good wander. We will definitely be up there again soon to dive a bit deeper in to the museum bits!

Sara and Barry's Tutbury Castle Wedding in Derbyshire https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/8/sara-and-barrys-tutbury-castle-wedding-in-derbyshire One sunny morning in early April I had the pleasure of doing the wedding photography for Sara and Barry at the beautiful Tutbury Castle in Debyshire. I'll be honest I'd never heard of this place before this wedding and when I first arrived to 'scope out' the venue prior to the wedding day I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the hidden gem that revealed itself from within such an unassuming place.

The wedding was a small intimate affair with a classic vintage feel and some lovely eco-touches. The bride wore a gorgeous cream satin gown with a definite vintage inspired design along with a beautiful beaded headband, simple handmade veil and her mother's antique pearl necklace.

The vintage theme continued through the flowers which were simple handtied bouquets made of locally sources roses and carnations, made by the bride's sister and finished with an antique brooch which used to belong to Sara's Great Grandmother.

The day was a relaxed, informal affair with only the couple's family and closest friends attending. This left them to really enjoy their day without the worries of the 'big occasion' and allowed me to get some beautiful wedding photographs in the castle grounds.

A super day was had by everyone and as a pure stroke of luck (I mean perfectly timed planning) the sun began to set perfectly as we all headed into Tutbury for the evening reception, allowing me to capture a few shots of our bride and groom walking off into the distance towards the beautiful sunset.

Thanks for letting me share the day with you : )

The Epic Hargate Hall

A bit of history about the building:

Hargate Hall was built in 1899. The original owner was Joseph Wainwright, but partway through construction it changed hands. The new owner, Robert Whitehead, completed the building but also made some substantial additions. more info

Having a number of rooms on site and space for marques and the like, it is a perfect wedding venue. The combination of the building and the surrounding grounds got me a bit giddy to be honest....

I managed to secure the services of an amazing make up artist from Leeds Vicki Suddaby. She brought a wealth of experience to the shoot and a few giggles;-)

Having worked with Eleanor on a shoot before i knew she would be perfect for this collaboration.

For any wedding shoot a key element has to be dresses, all of the amazing dresses in this shoot were very kindly provided by Roseau Bridal of Shipley.

The final element for this shoot was the vintage jewellery provided by Vintage Bridal Jewellery (thanks Eleanor :-0)

All round it was a great collaboration resulting in the images you see here. I would happily recommend all of the people involved to take part in your wedding, not only as professionals but a all round nice people......that sounds a bit soppy doesn't it.....

Thanks everyone!

Asian Bridal studio shoot https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/4/asian-bridal-studio-shoot-wedding-photography-yorkshire I had the opportunity to work with the fantastic Sara Rehman to shoot some asian bridal make up. i took advantage of a friends studio to have the control i wanted to light these shots...and it was snowing so an outdoor location may not have been a good idea! having not shot this style of make up before it was a lesson in make up for me! meaning I had to think about my lights a little differently to get the shots i wanted.

I always like to mix things up a bit so this set is a combination of traditional white backgrounds and some cool painted wall stuff. I hope you enjoy!

Ourika Valley - Marrakesh day 2 https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/3/ourika-valley-marrakesh-day2-morocco-travel-photography

With most trips to pastures new it’s sort of compulsory to go on a trip out on the tourist trail. Well, you look at the list of options and it’s a toughie. Marrakech is so close to the Atlas Mountains and the epic Sahara, which to pick....well this time (see I’m not ruling out a trip back) the first trip of the week had to be to the Ouirka Valley!

Located only 19 miles or so out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the valley is the entrance to the stunning Atlas Mountains. In the heart of Berber country surrounded snow capped peaks and cafes in the stream....there maybe a song there but we will come to that laters.

The epic Ourika Valley

Our trip was arranged by our riad and was designed for me not to get frustrated by the tourists getting in my photos. It cost the same as a group tour but without lunch included....but our personal guide....winner!

Our guide was from Ouarzurate on the other side of the mountains. Now the day started funny when he announced that he was in the film ‘the tem commandments’....now I am a film fan and I’m sure that a guy of 25 was not part of the Charlton Heston classic film. As we didn’t have access to the internet on the go i could not verify said fact but it did growl away in my head all week! (obviously when we got back to the land of 3g i confirmed that there was in fact a Christian Slater (aka will Scarlet) did a rubbish remake in 2007!)

The tree lined Atlas Mountains

On the journey through the amazing scenery there were many a village with men hanging around in the street and offering their hand to anyone who would pay them some monies.  I understand their difficult position in life but its tough seeing this on every corner.

One of the many things that confused me about the Seats in the water... now i am referring to the meandering river through the middle of the valley not small puddles at the side of cafes. Now it turns out that the boundary lines of cafe premises are a little woolly so the river is fair game to extent your floor space! I love the idea of just sitting with a beer in the middle of the river on an old school plastic garden chair.

cafe break anyone?

On route up to the intended waterfalls we stopped at a white villa with a funny smell coming from it. It turns out that it was a natural pharmacy, this meant a mini tour of some smell plants and an explanation of some of the natural remedies.  The amount of different ways that tea can be used to help the body out is amazing! We ended up buying some great handcream and even some berber tea! You should try it out assuming you can buy it over in the uk...

When we got in to the village  i was assuming that there would be a sign or at least an obvious route up through to the waterfalls...erm no...(if i could do a family fortunes ER ER noise but i can’t) we wandered through a cafe and headed though the stream, then the rocks and then through more rocks ...you get the picture.

Kindly taken by our guide;-)

We sort of missed the stunning views on the way up due to trying to get there without slipping on the rocks. Once we got to the base of the main falls we were greeted with a shop! No paths to get here but a shop/cafe with seats etc.

After a short stop my eyes drifted to the way down....or up as its also know. The only way back that wasn’t were i expected but actually up 4 steps on a metal step ladder and then to be met with a man in wellies.  Apparently the wellies give amazing grip on the sheer face he was going to be lifting us up. Being honest we didn’t have much choice so what can you do! Go with the flowwwwwwww

As you can see it was worth the crazy walk just for the amazing skies and views!

This trip had a fair few other giggles like marauding sheep, water features made of coke cans and musicians that wouldn’t take a no. But my fingers hurt!

Marrakech - a tourist paradise https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/2/-marrakesh-morocco-tourist-paradise-travel-photography

After deciding that our next break was to the colourful heat of northern Africa, my researching boots led us to find that there are way more things to do in Marrakech in the 5 days we could make it for. In my head i had certain expectations about the city and what to expect after seeing it portrayed on a range of discovery channel dooberies, once we landed i think they all went out the window!

m-13

The carpark of our riad..or not

The posh new airport was decorated with a mix of styles from the traditional to the modern, we were greeted by 100s of taxi offers but luckily our riad had already sorted this out to reduce our early taxi=no affairs. On the flight the most striking thing on landing was the mix of buildings, the shanty towns surrounding the brand new airport were decorated with blue plastic sheeting and corrugated panels... oh and satellite tv dishes!

The hussle and bustle of the city was clear from the short drive to our riad. Cars bikes and mopeds jostle for space on the road with pedestrians and horse carriages... oh and shops! There was no apparent rules, just whoever gets there first sort of has right of way!

When the car stopped we were in the middle of a street... not in the car park of a riad....the driver grabbed our bag and off we trotted down a 1m wide alley ....panic started to set in as we could be taken anywhere... upon reaching a non descript door we were greeted with a cheery French ‘bonjour’ from Olivier the owner of the Riad Al Ksar. The manky street was replaced with a very posh looking central courtyard and overall a great looking place to stay!

m-1

View overlooking Marrakech from our riad

After the formalities we headed out the door to start out adventure in a trading post dating back to 1062. Again we were faced with the chaos of the roads and pathways being filled with people, animals and shops/stalls of all kinds. Carrying my camera gear was a little strange as you know that the cost of the lens alone could have fed half the street for a very long time so it took a while to get past the stares and curious looks, or maybe they were all Nikoners?

The main road in the city got us to the front of the MASSIVE mosque that dominates the skyline. It was an amazing building although i’m admitting that it wasn’t the easiest the photograph in the high sun of the early afternoon!

m-2

The Koutoubia mosque from Avenue Mohammed V

With this sun in mind we headed to the main square.... now i said that the roads were chaos, i hadn’t seen the main square! Dodging mopeds and horses was the easy bit, it was the snake charmers helpers handing you snakes and monkeys in tutus being thrust at you that caused the issue! In these sort of situations i always try and find a wall to get my back against and soak up the atmosphere...no choice of this here so it was very much a keep walking and saying ‘no i don’t want a snake wrapped around my camera’.

m-3

On the whole our first day was a bit of a long wander that acclimatised us to the area and to figure out how not to look like a full on tourist! This journey led us to the Jardins de la Menara just on the outskirts of the city. It is the main destination for locals and tourists to wind down and relax under the olive groves. The main feature of the garden in the square water feature and the neighbouring building, the number one photo of the site is to get the Atlas mountains reflected in the water .....well it seems we picked the wrong day to get this effect. The sun was nice and the temperature not too high to cause problems with haze but guess what.. no sign of the mountains... buggers. It was still a nice trip out and we saw camels at the side of the road and all manner of footballing skills being carried out by the kids, as Lisa will testify i did also manage my best ever football bit of skill in trapping a high ball from a small child...i was happy.

m-5

Can u see the mountains in the background?

One of the curiosities of the county is that the currency is closed so you can’t import any, this means that there is always a massive bumfight for any cashpoints. We waited till we got in to town and reduce the hectic airport affairs. This may have been a mistake but we may not have witnessed a jedi warrior taking out some dirhams.

The traditional attire of the country is what the jedi outfits were based on. So it was a bit freeky to see so many jedis out on the street (or sleeping on it). It’s one of those things that you want to photograph but its not always easy as everyone is just doing their day to day stuff and happen to be wearing, so with this in mind i snapped a few but not everyone that went past...i could have done that easy.

To finish the day we did the very tourist thing of getting lost in the souks. I’m trying to block out the shopping trip so i’ll leave this one here and be back at you soon with some action from the Ourika Valley and the wondrous Atlas mountains

m-6

This is from a movie i'm sure but i have no clue which one!

m-7

Busy busy streets!

m-8

Snails or 'meat anyone?

m-9

smokey action!

m-10

i wish i could have captured the smell too...

can you feel the force?

Northumberland Coast https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/2/embleton-lownewton-northumberland-coast-seascape-wildlife-photography As i have pointed out in the past the coast was my weekend trip out when living in the sleepy Tyne valley. With dog in tow we used to tootle up the A1 to Embleton. As a child i never really understood the funny looks from blokes in pringle knitware pulling golf trollies as we crossed the footpath to the dunes. In later life, as a golfer i understand the looks, they range from 'i've just had a snowman' to 'birdie time'. all of which can lead to funny looks to passers by with dogs etc.

My recent trip was to stretch my legs after a mini pre-Christmas break. Of late we have gone out from the club house through the rough and dunes then heading right towards the castle and some amazing rock formations. This time for a bit of variation we headed up towards Low Newton. The journey took us away from the rocky outcrops of the castle to the sandy peninsular with some very traditional looking beach huts. not I have to say these beach huts were impressive! some had 2 floors and portholes! being honest the only traditional huts i have seen were in the posh bit of East Anglia at Southwold (Adnam's country for you ale drinkers) but they were all silly colours. The ones in Northumberland were obviously a little more classy;-) They lined the dunes looking out over the bay. now in the middle of winter I'm not saying that they were the most appealing of holiday destinations but I'm sure in the hight of summer they would be amazing!

While walking along we were going in parallel with a herd of Sanderling (not sure of the collective noun) going along the water line on the hunt for food. I did attempt to photograph said little birds but every time I did a loloping Labrador got in the way! so I had to make do with staring from afar. As we reached the end of the bay and turned towards civilisation of Low Newton it was clear that there were LOTS of little birds fighting over the invertebrates living on the seaweed under the rocks of the village. With Oystercatchers and turnstones a plenty it was like watching a brown carpet move all on its own.

If it hadn't been so windy I could have watched the movements for hours but you know how it goes on those short winters days the warm car was calling. Looping back over past the hungry Oystercatchers and geese we passed the backs of the huts and the edge of the golf course.  Even thought it was only an hour or so's walk it was fun and we saw a good range of different species. On the whole its a brilliant walk and worth the crazy road down to the golf course...its one car only even the passing places involve the closing of eyes and hope!

Gibside Hall - what a place! https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2012/1/gibside-hall-rowlandsgill-northumberland-nationaltrust-photography I was born as raised in the sleepy valley of the Tyne just in to god’s own country of Northumberland. most of my days out in my younger days were to Kielder, Duridge bay or along the banks of the Tyne. Even though we had driven past a large English Heritage brown sign saying ‘Gibside Hall 2 miles’ we had never been for a visit.

Located near Rowlands Gill, Gibside is a massive expanse of georgian extravagance. Gateshead council says:

Things to see and do at Gibside:

  • 18th-century landscaped ‘forest’ garden
  • Woodland and riverside walks boasting fine views across the Derwent Valley
  • Palladian Chapel with unusual three-tiered pulpit
  • Site of Special Scientific Interest - look out for red squirrels, kingfishers and other wildlife
  • Ancestral estate of the Queen Mother’s family, the Bowes-Lyons
  • Award-winning toilets (always a winner in my book)
  • Uncover Mary Eleanor Bowes’ dramatic story of torture and abduction
  • Look for nature at our wildlife hide and viewing cameras

Even though it was late in the tourist season the car park was full with people. Dog walkers and children’s entertainers, sorry i mean parents, were out enjoying the wooded gems.

As you walk through the visitors entrance the first thing that greats you is a the stunning chapel. With its domed roof and columned entrance, it forms an imposing structure at the start of a stunning tree lined avenue. Although the footpath runs in parallel to the avenue it would be wrong to not follow everyone else and enjoy the lines and the view.

At the end of the avenue is a massive column depicting Liberty. Apparently back in the dim and distant past the statue was covered in gold…. unsurprisingly this is no longer the case. With metal prices being what they are the statue may not last long with it being made of steal! While being up at the bottom of the tower there was some scuffling going on in a bush followed by me meeting a new friend;-)

I was surprised to walk further through the woods and find a hide. i had first assumed that it was to see some of the grey squirrels and maybe the odd finch… little did I expect the range of things dancing round the nuts!

Nuthatch, GS woodpecker, coal tit, great tit, pheasant, grey squirrel, chaffinches, blackbird

Following down through the estate to the the river opened a very different view of the relics of the hall. The costs must be silly to actually renovate the whole building but if it could be it would be an awesome sight. In some ways it was a shame you couldn’t see more of the inside of ruins but i understand why they need to be kept closed to falling and slipping ‘have you tripped or fallen and it wasnt your fault’ morons;-)

After wandering past the relics we met the river that meandered past a large flat plain in front of the hall. A large shadow then swooped down near us…what it a bird..was it a plane no…ok it was a kite! and not the string related one that i used to struggle with as a child. Having lived down in Leeds for a while i didnt know that Gibside was like the main place to go and see kites! well i was shocked at one so when the sky filled with 6 i was in giddy land. being honest these shots are not award winners but now i know its there i will have to go back with some camo gear on!

on the whole the place is a great day out. loads to see and a nice old environment. i will definitely be going back when i have the right gear and the time to camp out in a bush waiting for a kite to come by!

Overall i was a little frustrated, not by the place it was great, but by me not getting there till i’m in my 30’s! for a family day out its a great venue for a walk with the dog or the like the only slight issue maybe the costs. if you are not a National Trust member its about £5.50 per adult. this isn’t loads for a fun day out but could limit some people if the trip is forming part of a busy day out.

My highlights from the day had to be the kites, more because i was not expecting them i think. on my next visit i may have to go in full camo kit and hide in a bush! I jest but if i was to say which bit of the grounds to visit first… i think i would go high up to the hide and the pond. this gives some cool views over the column and also the wooden bliss.

RAC Rally - Dalby Forest 2011 https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/12/RAC-car-rally-race-dalbyforest-motorsport-sport-photogrphy At 5am in the morning I’m never the most awake but the draw of taking photos with some motorsports experts i was up and rearing to go (kinda). Upon arriving at Dalby Forest i was greeted with a panicy feeling i had forgotten something…after the chill hit me i realised it wasn’t anything in my camera bag it was my coat….winner!

Luckily Chris McLoughlin was at hand to provide me with a coat or i would have been stuck listening to morning radio in the front seat of the car. After i calmed myself, we met with our guides for the day. Mark Sayer & Gavin Higgins are both very experienced motorsports photographers and offered to show me and Chris (oh and Brian) the ropes. As an experienced photographer i haven’t really had the chance to stretch my legs in to the world of rallying so this was an opportunity to use my ‘fast moving stuff’ skills but gain some of the knowledge about positioning and style from the experts.

With my loaned coat on we walked a good stretch of the course to find a location that would provide both a bit of protection (ie a tree) but enough of a corner to create some dynamism. The corner we chose was Gale Rigg. As i said it was all a little new to me in the fact that i have shot lots of road based action before but not any on the old loose stuff….this led to my first shock…the rocks don’t stay on the side of the road when the car skids, they fly straight out and hit photographers…joy. After my initial panic it was more of a giggle to avoid the big ones with a stylish twist when the car exits the apex!

The mix of cars in the field let some variations in how each vehicle took the corner so capturing shots was an evolving art. due to the fact that i am not a motorsport photographer i think that some of the angles i tried to achieve worked well and gave a slightly different approach to the norm.

After some time at Gale Rigg we wandered up the track to find some more fun. it was evident that when we got to corner 4 the MASSIVE rut in the track. This had to be an interesting place to shoot for a while, now this is not to say that a photographer is always looking for some chaos but it always makes for a little fun if there is a little chaos!

With only one broken drive train we were expecting more from a rut of this magnitude but in saying that the level of air some of the cars got was amazing!

Overall the day was a fantastic trip out and i would advise anyone to go along to future events both to photograph but also to experience the skill and speed of thought that goes in to getting these cars around the circuit at such speeds.

York at Christmas https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/12/yorkminster-york-yorkshire-christmas-shopping-street-photography Even though it seems like years since i moved from my university home of York (5 actually), york holds a special place in my life. Moving away from the geordie nation up in Northumberland way to start my learning experience i ended up in the chemistry labs of York University. Little did i realise that i would gain such a connection to the place and it turn in to my second home.

I suppose the main reason for this would be meeting my wife and some of my very close friends. The buildings and feel of the city are calming and welcoming.

At this time of year, i.e. in the Christmas shopping chaos, myself and my wife tend to head back to York to do our shopping. the mix of high street stores and smaller more specialist stores (i’m sure you are all thinking of the clothes shops but i’m on about Travelling man for comics and the Yorkshire Book shop, sad sin’t it!).

Having visited Leeds and Birmingham city centres in the last couple of weeks we had expected to be greeted by a mass of steins and wooden ornaments but this was still in the process of being built! in many ways this was a blessing. is it really time for a Christmas market in mid November?

in my time at York i didn’t use my camera as much as i should have so i do enjoy going back and capturing some more memories.

Laura & Jason Lifestyle Shoot at Cannon Hall https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/12/cannon-hall-yorkshire-lifestyle-wedding-photgraphy

Basking in the rolling valley near to Cawthorne, Cannon Hall sits in between evergreens and deciduous foliage. The surrounding parkland was landscaped in the 18th century by Richard Woods of Chertsey, and features acres of parkland, lakes, waterfalls, follies and vistas. what better place to show your devotion to your bride to be? The grounds of the hall hold a special place in the hearts of Laura and Jason so had to be their chosen location for a lifestyle shoot before their big wedding day in 2012.

The banks of greenery form a warren of pathways and hiding places to explore. the main hall sits on the top of the hill but there are many remnants of ancient buildings and gardens weaving their way through the trees.

The amazing colours made for a perfect autumn day. I’m not sure how relaxed L&J were about the whole idea of photos in public as it was a busy day at the hall, but I think my jokes relaxed them and its amazing how a photographer dancing round taking all of the attention away chills people out ;-)

All the best, Gavin !!

Birmingham Visit https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/12/birmingham-planetarium-science-museum-tourism-christmas-photography Birmingham is one of those cities that has been missed off my tourist map, not through choice you understand but more through having the opportunity to get out there.

Last weekend gave me the opportunity to explore some touristy bits and a bit of a .. i was going to say wander through the Christmas market but that maybe isn’t the best way of describing it!

Birmingham City University

The trip advisor top visitor attraction is the ‘Think Tank Plantenarium’ this is part of Birmingham City University. As one of my fav episodes of South Park is the one about the Plana-arium, i will continue to refer to it as such….maybe

Although i didn’t get any shots in the plan-arium, it was a very cool 360 cinematic experience! the coyote showing me the stars was a little irritating but looking at the celling was cool! Think Tank is a very child friendly museum with a good mix of ‘global’ things such as fossils and medical do hickery but also local icons like trams, trains and canal based pumping systems.

With these much shorted days in the winter the beaconing light of the Christmas market and its large beery goodness was calling.

For the last few years i have been able to witness the chaos that is the Leeds Christmas Market. that is not to say that the stalls are not great or the beer is not provided in lovely steins, but the number of people squeezing in to Millennium Square. little did i realise that this would actually be quiet compared to the mele that involved being taken on a conveyor belt past all of the stalls! craziness

Overall the city has some amazing architecture, the bullring are is such a mix of new and old. I would like to get back with my camera and see what i can find!

Cannon hall - Mini travel blog https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/11/cannon-hall-barnsley-yorkshire-nature-tourism-photography Cannon Hall

West Yorkshire,

In recent weeks i haven’t had the opportunity to get out an explore many new and exciting places local to home. But this weekend i managed to get a small bit of time to have a wander round the grounds of Barnsley’s own, Cannon Hall

The Hall sits in many an acre of rolling grass land interspersed with ancient trees. on my visit i was also testing out my new 50mm 1.4 lens so maybe i was looking at the details more than normal but hey here are some images from the day!

In addition to the rolling countryside there are some stunning abandoned architecture alongside a range of tree species. From church remains next to yews and walls next to oaks! the mix between deciduous and ever greens make sit a wonderful place all year round.

Closer to the house sits a wide variety of small shops and a great walled garden. had i more time i would have liked to investigate further out in to the grounds but the number of people and my busy life at the moment meant i was only able scratch the surface of what is out there.

Gav travel rating 7/10

Oh i forgot, on the way home i went past a brown sign….with a viewpoint do hickey on it….you know how a photographer gets when they see a brown sign…well here is a shot from the top of Wooley Edge!

Malham Cove https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/10/malham-gordale-janetsfoss-yorkshiredales-yorkshire-nature-tourism-photography Today is a special day for me and my wife. 2 years ago we got married at the fantastic Matfen hall in Northumberland. so to celebrate we went out for a walk together. It may seem like a small thing but we have been so busy recently that walking hasn’t been top of the priority list.
For the last few years we have utilised a fantastic website for all of our walking needs. Go4awalk.com  provides maps to supplement OS and your eye. The walks are ranked to allow you to figure out which ones are the best for your fitness level. They range from 1 being a stroll in the park to 10 being silly-ville. having done  a fair few of these walks completed we know where we are, a 5 is a good walk for us but a 6 is …. a bit much. Today we decided to have a trip up to Malham cove, so after a quick check on the site we downloaded a 4 map (NY122) looping us round from the town centre through Janet’s foss, up to Gordale Scar and finally over the top of Malham cove. To say it was a bit of an adventure does sort of over state it but hey its blogging time!!

We arrived at Malham ready to get round the route in 2.5 hrs.. or so the map said. that obviously didn’t include the time for me to stop for photos…but as this was a walk not a photo trip i thought i best behave! I had managed to forget my walking boots so i was out in trainers.. not fun. Janet’s foss was a nice meandering stream through a wooded valley, ending in a great waterfall.

Janet Foss falls

Now after the nice wander we arrived at the stunningly busy Gordale Scar. At the end it was like Fenwick’s window the week before Christmas! (geordie people will get that one). We stopped for a quick drink and mouthful of old faithful, kendal mint cake, until we spotted the circus that was about to ensue. Now i know that i’m a little gungho when it comes to getting a nice shot but i do have my limits….as we arrived at the base of the falls i was in utter shock. in the image below can you see a man with a death wish!

Where’s Wally? This group of people at the bottom were rearing to get up there when one moron got there! now it was a tough challenge but after 10mins i thought it best to head back on the road rather than waiting with my 400mm to get the shot of this wally falling off!
The loop back up to the top of the cove let me get a couple of stop offs and camera opportunities. I said earlier than my walking boots were in Leeds….now i bet you can guess how bad my trainers were after 3 miles through sheep filled fields! i had visions of driving home in my bare feet again.

the wonders of Malham
At this end of the walk surprisingly it was quieter than i had expected but the light was not quite playing ball. There are so many nice lines on the top of the cove but there seems to be so many trees or scared dogs in my way! My plans for a wide angle shot from the top didnt happen but i did manage to get to play with my 10stop filter at the bottom.

We had a great day out so i have to give a big thanks to Go4awalk.com for making it a fun anniversary!

My Mam and Duridge bay https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/10/druridgebay-northumberland-coast-seascape-tourism-photography
This blogging lark is something I really enjoy doing but i sometimes struggle to figure out if I’m doing it for me to clear out my thoughts or to spread the thoughts in my head out to the world…as a child I was never a diary writer , mostly due to my struggles with the written word…..or being a Geordie as some would say ;-)

At this point in my life where my mother is a little ill and I’m looking at things a little differently, this blog is a little more for me than you but I’m sure you will see some nice shots of Duridge bay!

My mother has had a difficult time of late waiting for her spleen being taken out, she came home on Thursday for a week before the surgery, but isn’t well enough to come out on walks with the dog. This is why today was a little tough. i’m sure while growing up you all had a sunday out venue, in my case it was taking the dog for a walk up the coast. More than likely this was to the shifting sands of Duridge bay. It was never the warmest but the views were great.

This weekends trip allowed us to take my dad out for the day and give the dogs legs a good stretch. we started the afternoon as any up this coast should with a ‘99’ from Cresswell ices, I had my doubts about the chill in the air but it was a quality ice-cream! even the dog had a mini one!

The beach in the north east is a wonderful place, cold, windy, cold. but always epic in its grandeur. standing with my tripod in front of me staring out to see with my wife dad and dog with me was strange, but made me giggle at the same time. I have always been an impatient person and getting distracted by things passing me by, but since getting a wide angle lines on my camera i seem to be able to take life a little slower at times. In this case i had my wife running round picking up stones and my dad entertaining the dog, and me taking my time setting up my 10stop filter, cable release and bulb mode!

Over the last year i feel like i have spent a lot of time looking out to sea at the likes of Bempton Cliffs, St Abbs and the atlantic over the cliffs of Mohar there is something good to see the waves lapping on the shores of Northumberland where i will always feel as home no matter where i move too.

Although my mother was not with us on the day she was the main topic of conversation in light of her health. The next few weeks will be tough mentally for the whole family but we will keep strong and be positive!

As you can tell this was a great trip out and i would really suggest that anyone going this far in to the depths of the north.

Washington fun https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/10/washington-wildfowltrust-tynenadwear-wildlife-nature-photography

The best colours in Newcastle!

As my mam is just out of hospital me and the wife have been up to Northumberland for the weekend. As ever i managed to get a small trip in with the old camera! This time we visited a place that has a very close to my heart, Washington wildfowl and wetlands centre. If you happen to be visiting the area its a place well worth a visit. it breeds a range of rare species such as the Ne-ne, but also provides a fantastic stop off for a range of migratory species.

mmm grass

My connection is largely around a mallard that i looked after at university and released with the help of the staff at the centre. unfortunately we didn’t see him this time but that would have been tough after 7 years i bet the plastic ring has gone.

As this was only a fleeting visit I wanted to get a few photos but just to be outside with my camera. after wading through the bar-headed geese and eiders I attempted to get some shots of my most favourite of wildfowl the Mandarin….he was having non of it! its amazing how much more fun some grass looks when i have a lens pointed at him!

Get a flappin!

So after this mini defeat we headed in to the woods seeing a range of things on the way, goldeneyes, mallards and seagully type things. when arriving at the wood hide (location and construction) we were met by a (bugger i don’t know the collective noun for big lenses….) ‘sore-arm’ of massive lenses??? I was packing my blow pipe looking 400mm L 5.6 but still had fun!

All of the surrounding bushes and trees were full of birds in eager anticipation of getting some fat or some nuts, little did they realise that was all only put there for the squirrels! or so they thought! the bull finches and chaffys were waiting their turn but it wasn’t till a child dropped a cake or something to create an echo in the hide did the squirrel take shelter.

As much as I love sitting in hides waiting for some fun to happen it was a little busy and the 3.00 kick off at the toon was calling!

on getting home i was shocked to find a kite circling my parents back garden! shame i had a handful of coats and bags to stop me getting the old canon out in time! still nice to see it!

Strobist LessonOver the last couple of years i have had the privilege to learn a range of skills... https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/9/12166823914
Strobist Lesson

Over the last couple of years i have had the privilege to learn a range of skills with off camera flash from some of the Leeds maestros, namely Steve Gabbett, Neal Lewis and Phil Winterbourne.  The skills i have picked up have allowed me to build my portfolio but also be the focus of many a question from other photographer!

This week I was asked to run a mini strobist session with some other local photographers and said I would blog the journey through the shots we took and the changes to the light.

Please don’t take this as a ‘lesson’ as it was very much a hands on session and the shots require a bit more of an explanation than I maybe do here. if you want to learn more about light and off camera flash you have to visit the main man Mr David Hobby at strobist.blogspot.com its actually ironic that I gave this display not 100yrds from when I met Mr Hobby in a bar in Leeds ;-)

Where to begin…..
If anyone is asking what strobism is….in basic terms it is controlling the lighting of a photograph by using small portable flash heads, firing them in a variety of ways.. in this case we were using YoungNuo rf-602 triggers.

Larger image
Image 1:
The starting point for this setup was a simple one that I use to get the basis of any shoot involving flashes.

Manual mode
f/5.6
SS 1/160
ISO 100
Flash(s) 1/4 power

This will allow you to test out the ambient light and start creating the shot you desire.

In this first photo you can see that the light is positioned high to the right of the model. it would be nice to say that the settings are perfect and we get the preferred shot first go….but how often will that happen?

The light in this image is very harsh and gives us a very blown face. there are a number of option to correct this and I will go on to comment on these in due course. this photo does show the type of shadows that are created by a high bare flash (bare being without a modifier).

Larger image

Image 2:
The only difference in this shot is the position of the light. now it is positioned to the right of the model at at head hight. it creates a very different shadow and a different feel to the shot. this lighting is often used to bring out details in multi light setup due to it creating additional shadows across the face.

if you have a look at the lager version of the file you can see that the shadows on the face don’t make the image amazing, to address this there are a couple of techniques to ‘improve the shot’. In this talk I used a reflector IMAGE 3 and another light source IMAGE 4

When you are first starting out its very much about trial and error. learning how different setups will come out allow you to figure out how to get the shots that you actually want!

Modifiers
There are a range of light modifiers that can be used to change the way that light comes at the model. As this session was showing a range of these the following images show what changes can be made without changing any settings on the camera:
(please not in some of these images i have included a light at the rear of the model to give the haloing effect. this is only for personal preference)

Larger Image

Soft Box
This is a silver lined box with a white front that allows the light to bounce around inside giving a much softer light.

There are many people who can describe the benefits of using softboxes better than i can so here are some links ;-)

DIY softbox

Video from ephotozine

Purchasable from here (or ebay)

Larger Image

Snoot
This is a tube that funnels the light in to a more controlled space. As ouu can see from the image the light is again hard and very bright in the centre but there is significantly less fall off, leading to the cut off on the logo of the hoodie. This modifier is often used to light on specific spot on a shot.
There are a number of expensive options available but this one was made out of a sturdy Pringles tube and has the desired effect!

DIY Snoot

Larger Image

Grid
A grid acts as a closely packed snoot making the control event tighter. As you can see the fall off of light is less and the spot of light smaller. Again their are options for buying grids but this one was made from plastic drinking straws borrowed from a drinking establishment and surrounded in card.

The effect can be used to great effect and much better than this image shows! there is a considerable loss of light in this shot due to the straws maybe being a little too long ;-)

There are other modifiers like ring flashes and sto-fens but being honest I could go on all day and I’m sure you are bored by now;-)

If you are still interesting in my ramblings here are the final shots of the night that highlight firstly what the difference is to shooting in a ‘corporate lighting style’ ie 2 lights with umbrellas often seen at corporate events…. I’ll leave that one to your thoughts !

2x brollies a better option?

I personally find this a bit flat even thought it could be a bit brighter with the model slightly closer to the lights.

How would I light it?
Well obviously the question was asked to how would I do it if I was shooting this for a client….well here you go, it maybe not everyone’s choice but I think it brings out the detail and isolates the model. Now should I tell you how this was lit or do you want to figure it out yourselves?

The Burren - Mini Travel Blog https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/9/12166823145 West Coast of Ireland - County Clare

The Burren

The Burren was a wind swept and imposing landscape sitting much nearer to sea-level than expected. in yorkshire limestone pavement seems to be nearer to the hills. The pavement in Clare sat between the sea near the cliffs of mohar and the rolling hills near Poulgorm, it is a truly stunning environment.

Would this have survived in Leeds ;-)

The Poulnabrone Dolmen (Portal Tomb in the Burren) is located 10yrds off one of the ‘main roads’ from Ballyvaughan through to Corrofin. Its an imposing site, surrounded by grey rock features as far as the eye can see. If there hadn’t been a sturdy rope fence i’m sure people would have been sitting on the top of it boozing guiness ;-)

This area being a national park I had many preconceptions around the type of things we would see. As with most situations in life my ideas went out the window within a few moments. The lunar landscape started the trend but for me the difficult one to perceive was the lack of wildlife. I’m not saying i was expecting to be over run with birds but one wagtail and a rook was a bit of a shock! but i suppose the eerie silence only added to the allure of the burren.

Verdict - 8/10 in parts its very quiet an a please to be in but in others there is a steady stream of people in coaches going ‘wow its some rocks’. I would definitely go again and visit at maybe a more appropriate time i.e. sunrise or sunset. It would be high on the list of places to go back to if i was over in Ireland again.

The Barren Burren - Ireland day 1 Part 1 https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/8/12166820935

Dublin bay as we entered on the boat
After a day travelling to the emerald isle by car and boat, a good nights sleep got us ready for the imagined wonders of the leprechauns homeland. With visits planned for a range of villages and landscapes each day would be a fun experience.
We were staying just outside of the quiet village of Corrofin in the middle of County Clare. The area is renowned as a fishing paradise, the large Inchiquin Lough neighbouring our cottage was perfect for nabbing a pike or too.
With a plethora of options open to the avid traveller the local tourist information point was the first stop. They had a good spread of leaflets and friendly staff that pointed us in the direction of the Burren national park. The Burren is an expanse of limestone pavement covering a large part of Country Clare. The lunar feel of the surroundings was an imposing surface to walk on and with the stunning hills in the background it was difficult to look at both your feet and the backdrop.
don’t step on him!
As with every wander the panic set in when the path seemed to end and the only way forward was a path that had to be classed as officially ‘off the beaten’ one…all that was missing was a hobbit and gollem and it could have been a set from Lord of the rings. For a change we took the correct course of action and walked 100yrds back and followed the ‘loop’ markers. We hoped that this would et us back on route, it did..kinda. We looped up a sheer face to find ourselves on the top of the burren. with stunning views and a raven passing over it was clear that the path we had followed was really not the one that took 40mins ‘easy walking’.
stunning views over the burren
The thrill of being in the wilds is always better than being bored on a path being told where to go! in saying that we headed back towards the car just in case we got fully lost! With the burrun being as harsh a landscape it was clear that only specialist trees were able to populate the rocky soil. Hazel trees were EVERYWHERE! It was clear that conditions were perfect for them and no one was complaining. In some places it seems there were being semi harvested there were that many.
After a hearty lunch of cheese sarnies, we spotted a stream of people coming from the opposite direction looking like that have walked for …shall we say about 40 mins….maybe on a nature trail…oh well never mind ey! we finally found the nature trail and thought we better do our bit and complete it as it was the reason for going! It was worth the extra trip as it was a mess of dragonflies! although it was a little lame compared to our earlier travels it was still fun to take it all in.

It seems the first day was maybe a little more action packed than I expected! I’ll leave the next bit of the journey for the next instalment! fun things like attack swallows and leaning towers are on the cards!

St Abbs coast https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/6/12166819431

Yesterday involved a fun trip out up in to the cold and windy climes of Scotland. For my whole life the area around Eyemouth has been a place of character and history. My grandparents had a caravan in eyemouth for many years and all of my childhood holidays were spent in the harbour at ‘the seagull’s beak’ pub (or the ship as its really known) or on the beach at Coldingham.
This back story just confirmed my fathers suggestion of a day out along the iconic coastline was a great idea.
can you smell the coast?

Located just above Berwick-upon-tweed along the scottish coast, the run of harbour towns of Eyemounth and St Abbs surrounding the beach at Coldingham provide a wonderful backdrop to a day out with a camera.
The main focus of the day was to shoot some seabirds. the coastline in this area is a Scottish nature reserve and home to a range of species including kittiwakes, guillimots, razorbills and a couple of gliding gannets.
After walking from the visitor center it was clear that the weather was not going to be my friend. the grey skies and wind was not making the day look as exciting as a recent trip to RSPB Bempton Cliffs. but as ever you never know how things are going to pan out so off we headed with massive camera bag on my back.

tis a little grey that sky!

The first thing that hit you when visiting the site in comparison to Bempton Cliffs is obviously the lack of gannets, but also the significant lack of safety fences! the access to the cliffs reminded me of the Peruvian method of health & safety…’its your fault if you are stupid’. Now obviously this is great for getting access to the coast and its wonders but not so great when you are panning a kittiwake on the edge of the cliff and you take too many steps forward!

This said a bit of care and attention and all will be fine. The imposing cliffs and sweeping grass verges are a sight to behold and make the visit one that can take in both landscape shooting and sea bird shooting too.

After initally being a little frustrated on the first outcrop to how far away i was from the birds relative to other site i have been too, my face lit up another 500yrds further along. i made my way down on to a small rocky bay as a Shag was sitting waiting for me…..as i got closer to the water i was greeted by a wall of nests. the collection included Shag, Razorbill and Guillemot. after some initial wetting of feet and shouting i got my tripod out and set up to help me out with getting some sharp images. the outcrop was a little shaded so i was only getting about 1/50th of a second which made it tough to hand hold at 400mm.
the birds were not bothered by me at all and carried on their day jobs of making the cliffs whiter ;-)

After another 500 yrds or so we crossed the edge of a field to spot what i would have described as a perfect site for falcons. there were some signs of activity but nothing was moving. a number of wagtails and pippets in the local vicinity highlighted the lack of a predator. you can imagine the glee at my father shouting loudly up in front of me at the chaos that was unfolding up in front of us, a peregrine was busy making the fulmers and kittiwakes go loopy! after a good 20mins of tracking it all of a sudden we struck gold and the falcon decided to take a rest and sit on the grassy verge about 800yrds away. Although it was a long way away i managed to utilise all of my skills to get a reasonably sharp one!

This shot involved a canon 400mm 5.6 lens, tripod, manual focus, live view, a cable release and a wind break! Its amazing how windy it can be on top of a cliff!

In some ways i was focusing on testing out the 400mm on flying birds but as ever with any colony site there are interesting things where ever you point the lens! the vast swathes of guillemots on rocky outcrops were a must see. After passing the lighthouse and taking a food break the rest of the afternoon was spent having fun panning and hoping not to get attacked by parental birds. The way that he site is managed and maintained is great for access and is a must visit for a nice day out with or without the camera.

Kielder forest part 3! https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/4/12166818714

The Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

After visiting the stunning wooden head could that really be the last piece of artwork on this walk….i think not!
Journeying another 2 miles along forest tracks another wooden sign pointed towards a field and the waters edge. Being honest (this may surprise some of you) i’m not the biggest fan of massive outdoor artwork as I sometimes struggle with the justification for their existence. This is a very sweeping statement and I there are a number of pieces that I’m sure people love…..but thy need to have a bit more about them for me. Having said that I really liked the wooden head as it fit in very well with the context of the surrounding woodland. Would I have said the same if it had been made of metal in contrast? I’m not so sure.
Anyways back to the next leg of the artwork jaunt. Wandering down the field I spotted two things or should that be one solid things and one swarmy type thing (ie lots of very small midgies). The swarm was the first one I had had the pleasure of meeting on this trip. Kielder has a reputation for being a hotbed of midgie action but the weather had thus far been kind and a little windy, hopefully it lasts out.
The large item at the end of the road was a very novel installation.
Viewpoint - does exactly what it says on the tin

Viewpoint is a very simple series of triangles made of concrete… but! It signifies that the location is a viewpoint and I really thought it fitted in the location perfectly. I would have stayed longer but the swarm was starting to get between my ears so the next stop was the janas chairs!

Now after 6 miles of walking my massive camera bad was starting to make my hands a bit numb so the sight of some over sized spinnable chairs was a wonderful break from the pounding of the path.

something plant like..any suggestions!

Located on the bank very close to the water. Their contemporary design was striking against the water and the wood. The original plan was to only visit the chairs but having sat down in one of them…..an hour soon jumped away. They were very large but surprisingly comfortable.
Janus chairs

Not surprisingly the walk back to the cabin was maybe a little less adventurous mainly due to the strain on my back and feet. The only memorable moment was walking casually along and gawping at the woods…then I was eye to eye with a deer only 10ft away, I tried to move for my camera but as you all know they are a little bit fast!

The next instalment will have some more fun with camera obscura’s and balls in trees!

Kielder Forest part 2 https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/4/12166818002
one creepy head

The journey further round the waters edge took me through a varied mix of deciduous woodland, heathland and obviously pine forest. This wealth of locations meant I had a choice to make, shoot everything or be very focused on what I wanted. In the past I may have took the ‘gunning it’ approach but now I am able to control my urges and deliver my initial goals ;-)

Within the first 2 miles I found a great location near the waters edge with bull rushes poking out of the waters of Bakethin. The only issue I had was time of day, long exposures with the sun glinting off the water tend to result in an effect similar to a glitterball…not the best for soft water shots!

Bullrushes on Bakethin

The peaceful walk through the trees means its easy to miss one of the most iconic peices of art in the area. Winking through the trees some 100yrds from the main path is a 15ft tall wooden head.
This is now one of the iconic places to visit. It provides a strange feeling of scale as the head is big enough to walk in too but its located with in some large pine trees. The creation is constructed as a layered series of wooden and is constructed to allow you to look out over the forest floor out of the eyes. the setting is perfect and it makes you stare and think about its context. Taking photos of the head was interesting as there are so many angles that can be used to emphasis the curves relative to the very straight lines of the surrounding trees.

u lookin at me?

This visit to the head also allowed me to take i some of the local wildlife. due to the rural nature of the area i was expecting to see a fair range of species, i was not disappointed. Most were a little too far away, like the buzzards flying above me a lot of the time, but i was lucky enough to get close enough to a sand piper scurrying around next to me while i was taking a rest stop.

part 3 will include some very dark antics with cables and tripods ;-0

Kielder Forest part 1 https://www.gfpclientlounge.co.uk/blog/2011/4/12166816943

The north side of Keilder water

For the last few days I have been visiting some memories. Having been brought up in Northumberland one of the Sunday visits was up to my fathers place of work, Keilder reservoir. Keilder lies out in the far north west of the county just outside of Bellingham and Falstone.

The reservoir is the key focal point and is surrounded by ‘the largest manmade woodland in Europe’ the water attracts sports enthusiasts for both sailing and water skiing. In recent years there as been a significant shift in marketing and the creating of a more formalised footpath all 26miles around the water means it has become a hub for walkers and mountain bikers. Recent additions of downhill routes have cemented the area with biking fans from around the UK.
The commissioned artwork

Greenery near ‘Silvas Capitalis’

My focus for the trip was to have a relaxing few days and get some additional shots for my portfolio. As ever I was well planned and had enough gear to fill my car…I now think that my camera bag weighs more than my fully laded golf bag! With plans to shoot both landscapes and wildlife I had all the way from 10mm out to 500mm.

7D
10-20mm Sigma
17-50mm 2.8 Tamron
50mm 1.8 Canon
70-200mm 2.8 Canon
170-500mm Sigma
10 stop filter
grad filters

We stayed at Ravenshill forest park which is located at the far end of the reservoir next to Keilder castle (a hunting lodge built for the duke of Northumberland in 1775). The location is waking distance from Bakethin reservoir (the top end of the main reservoir) and within 15 mins drive to any of the main visitor attractions. Situated through a woodland drive and surrounded by stunning views the wood cabin provided a wonderful base for taking photos.

My shooting started on the cacophony of feeding stations outside of the cabin, sat on the balcony I was able to tick off the following visitors:

Chaffinch
Blue tit
Great tit
Coal tit
Spuggies
Nuthatch

Eating all the nuts

I’m sure you could spend all of your time in the cabin relaxing but that’s not how I am programmed so most of our days were spent out hunting for locations and finding routes between the various artwork installations. The commissioned artwork features provide reasons for visiting the more extreme parts of the forest.

one of the first installations in the forest

As a child I spent many a day on the banks of the water at the Bull Crag peninsula filling my time with staring at a bobbing orange float, waiting to pull out a whopping rainbow trout. At least that’s how I remember it, my dad enjoys telling the story that what actually happened was that I spent time making a reel go the wrong way and create many hours of cutting line followed by profanities. For this reason I tried to investigate some of the farther reaches of the area to widen my creative horizons.
Since the northern bank has only recently been accessible and the installations of ‘Silvas Capitalis’ and the ‘janus chairs’ being a big draw this was the first tripout.

this could go on a while so we can take a small break i think. more coming in part 2!
